Strong Mindset for VBAC

How Did Your Labor Start?

My water broke while I was asleep, and progressed very quickly from there!

What was the Most Challenging aspect of your childbirth and How did you Overcome it?

I did not have a very supportive team (minus my wonderful husband). My doula turned out to be not the warmest person, and my doctors were generally very pessimistic about the possibility of achieving VBAC. I was able to use the Push Lab to develop a positive and strong mindset about my ability to give birth vaginally, and my husband set his mind to helping me however he could through the techniques provided and his ability to advocate between all the different team members.

How did the Push Lab help you prepare for an empowered birth?

When I arrived at the hospital, one of the nurses told me that being a TOLAC/VBAC mama, I would only have an hour to push or else they’d be very quick to send me into the OR for a c-section. Given the techniques I learned through the Push Lab, I was able to get my baby out in less than 15 minutes!!

What surprised you about your birth?

It was SO fast. I was induced with my older child and she was delivered by emergency c-section after she did not tolerate labor AT ALL, so I had no clue what to expect in going into labor on my own. It was not as scary as I thought it would be, and the rush of pride and happiness I felt afterward was like nothing else!

How did it feel to meet your baby for the first time?

Amazing! I still have waves of total shock and happiness to have had my delivery go the way I wanted it to, and to be with my perfect little family now.

What advice can you give to moms looking to prepare for an empowered birth?

Know that you can rise above an unsupportive team and control what you can control. Having a positive mindset and the physical techniques to deliver a baby vaginally was key for me in my VBAC delivery.
